CPR Level A, B and C: what’s the difference and which to choose?

Level A, B or C: CPR courses do not cover the same groups. Here is how to choose the right level for your personal or professional needs.

CPR courses come in levels. The right choice depends on who you might need to help.

The three levels at a glance

  • CPR Level A: focused on adults. Ideal for the general public and settings with mostly adults.
  • CPR Level B: adult and child. Less common, sometimes folded into Level C.
  • CPR Level C: adult, child and infant. The most complete, often required at work and for those around children.

Which one to choose?

For personal use among adults, Level A is usually enough. If you are a parent, educator, babysitter or work with children, choose Level C. For the workplace, check your employer’s or CNESST’s requirement before booking.

What about the AED?

Most CPR courses include the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), a simple device that guides the rescuer step by step during cardiac arrest.
